Grafham Northerners Open

The "Grafham Northerners Invitational Open Classic Annual"

This event, in its first year was held on Grafham for the very first time and combined Flyfishing with Beer Drinking.

Taking part were The Stocks Reservoir Boys with a small contingent from the Game Fair Flyfishers namely Chairman, James Inkpen. Treasurer, Jim Youngman. and Committeeman, Davie Auld.

They were there at the kind invitation of Chris Guthrie.

Around 16 anglers fished and results were mixed with some lads having one good day but only a few having two reasonable days. A small sweepstake was organized and the Individual winner was Jim Youngman. Winners of the Blind Pairs were James Inkpen and John Calvert.

For the two days Jim had 9 fish for around 22Lbs. 6 Oz.

The rest had less weight although one or two had more fish.

Jim had 2 fish on the Saturday and 7 on the Sunday.

On the Sunday he fished with new England Qualifier Paul Bebb who also had 7 fish. They fished mainly in Sanctuary Bay and Paul caught on a Slime Line and Hummungus while Jim caught on a Brown Minkie and Ghost Tip. Jim seemed to do better in the shallower water an Paul in the Deeper. This kinda makes sense.

It was a very windy weekend. Beer does that to you. It was also North East 20mph gusting to 25/30 with cloudy skies and cool.

Smaller fish were caught at the Dam End.
